Data Modelling Policy Officer (f/m/d) Green Deal Ukraïna Reference No.: GF 2024/26 * Would you like to make a significant contribution to the energy and climate transition? * Do you love working with numbers and modelling? * Do you have initial experience in energy and climate modelling, and in building and maintaining databases? Then you've come to the right place: Green Deal Ukraïna is a four-year project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) that aims to establish an independent think tank for energy and climate in Ukraine. The project is based on the cooperation of German, Polish and Ukrainian partners and produces results in the fields of data, modelling, policy analysis and advice as well as training in the energy and climate sector. As a research assistant, you will have the responsible task of coordinating energy and climate modelling for the Green Deal Ukraïna project. Your Tasks * You support the work package Data, Facts, Modelling in close cooperation with the work package manager * You prepare, evaluate, store, and maintain energy economic, technical and social science primary data * You provide data for use in the work areas “Facts and Modelling” for modelling and “Policy Analysis & Advice” (parameterisation of models) * You also prepare the data graphically for internal project purposes and publications * You are responsible for the development and programmatic implementation of your own energy system and power system models, input-output models and/or sector models (transport, buildings, etc.) in Python, GAMS or an adequate other programming language * You adapt existing models (usually open-source models) from the fields of energy and power systems for use in the project Your Profile * Diploma or master's degree in economics, energy and climate economics, physics, computer science, systems science or equivalent * Sound knowledge in at least two of the following fields: energy and climate, economics, environmental sciences, modelling of economic, social and/or technological systems, optimisation and scenario analysis * Modelling skills, programming skills (preferably Python) and experience in working with data * Systematic approach, affinity to data, mathematical and physical questions and problems * Desirable: experience in research, consulting and project management in the private and academic energy sector Your Benefits at HZB * Opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate-neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers * Commitment to diversity and sustainability through an inclusive working environment, promotion of diversity sensitivity and implementation of sustainable and climate-neutral methods * Further development opportunities and training programmes * Attractive remuneration through payment according to TVöD Bund * 30 days holiday/year * Extensive additional benefits, such as company pension plan (VBL), subsidy for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job) and company sports programmes * Good work-life balance through counselling services on family and career and flexible working time models: Flexitime, part-time, hybrid working * And a team that is looking forward to meeting you!
