Junior Research Group Leader Theoretical Chemistry of Polymers in Energy Applications (m/f/d) Reference No.: HI 2024/16 Achieving climate-neutrality within the next 20 years necessitates an innovation boost for the development of highly efficient, scalable, low-cost, and sustainably produced energy technologies. Polymer materials play a central role in this process. HIPOLE deeply integrates and expands world-class expertise in polymer chemistry, materials science, high-throughput experimentation and artificial intelligence with complementary expertise in inorganic/hybrid materials, scalable devices, and advanced characterization. We are looking for a Junior Research Group Leader Theoretical Chemistry of Polymers in Energy Applications (m/f/d) for our two locations in Jena. The junior research group leader position offers a unique opportunity to establish a junior research group in the field of theoretical chemistry in the area of polymer redox flow batteries, polymer-based thin film batteries or photovoltaics (research areas HIPOLE Jena), which will complement the current activities of HIPOLE Jena and strengthen the collaboration between the theoretical and experimental groups. Your Tasks * Research in the field of computational / theoretical chemistry; possible research lines are polymer redox flow batteries, polymer-based thin film batteries or photovoltaics; develop research lines that complement the activities within HIPOLE Jena * Initiate new research priorities and coordinate the progress of scientific research projects; participate in ongoing research programs * Acquire and manage national and international research funding * Publishing results in peer-reviewed international journals and specialized literature * Participating in scientific conferences and building scientific networks * Supervision of Bachelor's / Master's students and doctoral candidates Your Profile * Completed scientific university degree in chemistry or materials science and doctorate in theoretical chemistry / quantum chemistry or chemical material modelling * Extensive knowledge in the field of theoretical chemistry / quantum chemistry and material modelling * Experience in the field of modelling energy materials / battery materials * Experience in the field of machine learning and working with Linux systems and mainframe computers * Experience in the field of ab initio molecular dynamics simulations * Several years of postdoctoral experience (or equivalent experience) in the field of research at a university, research institute or company * Preferably international experience * Excellent research portfolio with peer-reviewed publications * Ideally, you have already successfully acquired third-party funding * Very good command of written and spoken English and German * Experience in presenting scientific content in English * Have leadership potential and organizational skills You demonstrate a high level of commitment, initiative, problem-solving skills and the willingness to familiarize yourself with a wide range of tasks. You are characterized by your ability to work in a team, reliability, independence and communication skills (also in English).
